Vanessa Hobson is a Chicago native and the founder of YIN Society, a wellness company on a mission to establish a sustainable lifestyle of wellness.
Vanessa is a Licensed Esthetician, trained at The University of Aesthetics and Cosmetology, as well as an experienced Advertising Account Director.
She started YIN Society “to help myself and the women around me recognize our power, learn to follow our intuition, and be celebrated for all that we bring to the world. And to help men tap into their essential feminine energy to experience harmony and fulfillment within, that resonates through every area of their life.”
Q: What is your personal mission? What drives you?
My personal mission is to live as my highest self and lean into my true purpose as a way of life and a pathway to abundance. I’ve always loved helping and taking care of others. Making people feel good. I’m driven by genuine connections, a natural passion for creativity, and the knowledge that God has a plan to see me prosper.
Q: What inspired you to start Yin Society?
Yin Society was naturally born as a part of my first passion project, The Outsiders Blog, which is a platform that’s rooted in creative writing as a way to encourage people to know their Power, share their Perspective and protect their Peace . We sold branded merchandise as wearable reminders of our mission and YIN was one of the shirt variations.
It came at a time where I started realizing that I needed to separate my business from the blog and I trusted my intuition enough to know that YIN was the name. It was also a time in my life where I desperately needed healing, so learning and writing more about Yin energy became a huge factor in my revival.
Q: What products / services does your business currently offer?
Candles - YIN Society candles are hand-poured with intention in Chicago. We offer three variations of 16 oz. soy candle scents that were strategically selected to bring energy, rest, and balance into your environment. Each candle burns for 96 hours.
Clothing - We have intentionally designed premium “everyday clothes” to infuse the YIN Society mindset into people’s daily lives because we know that creating real change requires consistency. It’s truly a lifestyle.
Skincare Services - We offer facials and waxing at Yin Skin to keep our community looking and feeling like the best version of themselves.
Q: What is your definition of success?
For me, success would be expanding to a larger location and digital footprint where we can offer services that lend themselves to total wellness for our community. From skin care and hair care, to nutrition consulting, yoga and creative expression classes. I want to really lean into the healing power of Divine Feminine energy as a way of life.
Q: What's the #1 piece of advice you would give to a woman business owner who is just getting started?
Trust your unique vision and stay true to it. Be diligent, but don’t rush it. Give it the time it needs to grow organically.
